About Brompton
In 1975, in the bedroom of a flat overlooking the Brompton Oratory in London, engineer Andrew Ritchie invented a bike with an ingenious three-part fold - a lightweight vehicle that transformed into a compact package in under 20 seconds. A bike you could take anywhere. A "magic carpet for the city."
Despite relentless rejection from banks and bike companies, Ritchie's determination paid off when, in 1987, a Brompton owner and founder of Naim Audio stepped in to support the brand. At that year's Cyclex Bike Show at Olympia, the Brompton folding bike won the coveted Best Product Award.
For many, the bike you can spot from a distance is as London as a red double-decker bus or the Underground. The Brompton was chosen to represent London at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and less than twelve months later it received the Prince Philip Designers Prize for outstanding achievement in design.
The Range
Today Brompton offers five distinct lines to suit every type of rider and journey:
The C Line is the original icon, super compact and available in a wide range of colours with 4 and 12-speed options. The A Line is the perfect introduction to Brompton - one spec, one-size-fits-all, with 3 gears. The P Line blends performance with classic Brompton character, built from titanium, steel, carbon and aluminium. The G Line is the most versatile bike in the range, with larger 20" wheels for city streets and beyond. And the T Line is the lightest Brompton ever made.
The T Line represents a long-held ambition: precision-engineered titanium, TIG-welded by hand in a purpose-built factory in Sheffield, weighing just 7.45kg. Electric versions of the C Line, G Line, P Line, and T Line are also available, all powered by the Brompton e-Motiq system.
